The course aims to prepare the participants for the legal framework applicable to military operations by building up the participants’ theoretical and practical knowledge of international laws, namely international Humanitarian Law (IHL), international human rights law (IHRL), and other related topics. The course will explore the overlapping topics and issues surrounding IHL and IHRL, such as military in security operations, detention operations, sexual violence, and healthcare in danger, relevant to military operations. The role of legal staff officers in armed conflict, including advising military commanders and others in the field, will be discussed. The speakers for this course are experienced experts equipped to provide the participants with a balanced approach combining theoretical knowledge and professional experience.
PARTICIPANTS
The Workshop is intended for middle-level operational and legal staff officers (Lieutenant to Lieutenant Commanders or equivalent) with operational backgrounds with interest in how legally compliant military operations are planned and conducted above the tactical level.
